ABOUT
Giulio Cattaneo is an Italian composer, who graduated with honors in Electronic Music from the Milan Conservatory under the guidance of Javier Torres Maldonado, Cesare Saldicco, and Davide Gagliardi. He is currently a composition student at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in the class of Nadir Vassena. Since 2024, Cattaneo has also been attending the Advanced Specialization Course in Electronic Music at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Michelangelo Lupone. In 2025, he attended the advanced course in electronic music and sound computing at the Accademia Chigiana, with Alvise Vidolin, where he was awarded the Diploma of Merit. Cattaneo has also participated in international masterclasses in composition and electronic music with artists such as Ivan Fedele, Berry Turax, Philippe Hurel, Michele Tadini, Luis Naon, Martin Matalòn, and many others.

His pieces have been performed by leading figures in contemporary music, such as the Sillages Ensemble (France), MDI Ensemble (Italy), Roberto Casado, Myriam Garcia Fidalgo, Mobius Duo, Peter Vale, the ECME Ensemble, and under the direction of renowned conductors such as Yoichi Sugiyama and Simone Fontanelli.

Among other achievements, Cattaneo was composer-in-residence for SZ Sugar (Revelation Lab 2025 residency in collaboration with SIAE, “Per Chi Crea,” and the Italian Ministry of Culture) and for Tempo Reale during summer 2024 (PiGro Residency). In January 2025, he won second prize at the “International Composition Competition for Timpani,” held at the Conservatory of Lyon and organized by the INFINITY Association in collaboration with the Conservatory of Lyon and GRAME.

Professionally, Cattaneo is also active in the field of sound direction and live electronics, having collaborated with numerous composers, performers, and ensembles such as Divertimento Ensemble, Peter Vale, Marco Rizzi, Javier Torres Maldonado, Cesare Saldicco, MDI Ensemble, Michele Tadini, Mobius Duo, Alberto Carretero and Andrea Molino. From 2025 he is one of curator of “Ramificazioni Festival”.
